Green Jobs

About the sector

Green jobs are jobs that help protect the environment or reduce harm to it. They include work in renewable energy such as solar and wind power, waste collection, segregation and recycling, water conservation and treatment, and helping buildings and businesses use energy more efficiently.

India has set large targets for renewable energy, and rooftop solar is spreading across homes, offices and factories. Cities are also paying more attention to waste segregation, composting and recycling. All of this needs trained technicians and field workers who can install, operate and maintain these systems.

• Solar installation companies serving homes, businesses and industry
• Solar power plants, in operation and maintenance teams
• Waste management and recycling companies, and municipal projects
• Composting units in housing societies, campuses and markets
• Water and sewage treatment plants
• Facility management teams in large buildings

Skills employers value

• Basic electrical knowledge and safe working practices, including work at height
• Reading simple layouts, drawings and checklists
• Correct use of hand tools, safety gear and measuring instruments
• Knowing how to separate and handle different types of waste
• Careful record keeping and reporting
• Willingness to work outdoors and at different sites
