Documents Checklist

The documents candidates are usually asked for when joining a skill training programme, with practical tips on getting them ready.

Keep your documents ready

Having your documents ready makes enrolment quicker and saves you extra trips. Requirements vary by programme, especially between fee-based programmes and those run under government-sponsored schemes, so our counsellors will confirm exactly what you need. The list below covers what candidates are typically asked for.

Documents usually required

Identity proof

  • Aadhaar card, which is commonly asked for in skill programmes.
  • Another photo identity document if requested, such as a voter ID card, PAN card or passport.

Educational documents

  • Mark sheets and pass certificates for your highest qualification, such as Class 10, Class 12, ITI, diploma or graduation.
  • Any earlier training or skill certificates you hold.

Photographs

  • Recent passport-size colour photographs. Keep a few extra copies.

Bank account details

  • For scheme-linked programmes, details of a bank account in your own name, such as a copy of the first page of your passbook or a cancelled cheque. These are often needed for verification or for any payments made under the scheme.

Category and other certificates, where applicable

  • A caste or category certificate (SC, ST, OBC or EWS), if you belong to one of these categories and the programme asks for it.
  • A disability certificate, if applicable.
  • Address proof, if your current address is different from the one on your identity proof.

Contact details

  • A working mobile number and an email address. Keep the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar active, as some registrations use it for verification.

Tips for preparing your documents

  1. Check that details match. Your name and date of birth should be the same on your Aadhaar, mark sheets and bank account. Get any mismatch corrected early, as it can delay registration.
  2. Carry originals and photocopies. Bring originals for verification, along with self-attested photocopies.
  3. Keep digital copies. Scan or photograph your documents and store them safely. DigiLocker, the Government of India’s digital document wallet, is a useful place to keep official documents.
  4. Protect your information. Share your documents only for genuine purposes. Never send copies of your Aadhaar or bank details, or share OTPs, with unknown people who contact you about jobs.
